The external and internal pressure to minimize or deny rape can be overwhelming especially when there are no physical marks on the victim's body which can be seen by everyone.

Know that many police officers believe it is ethical to lie to you
Unfortunately many investigators are hostile to most rape victims and are quick to find an excuse to dismiss a rape case as false. They may feel it is okay to treat victims as suspects but without the accompanying legal rights.

Personal safety
The effects of being raped can leave rape survivors vulnerable to sexual assaults by people who were previously safe. There are other safety issues which rape survivors may not be aware of.

Why gendered warnings about safety hurt men
If women who drink or who trust men who turned out to be rapists are stupid then all women must assume that all men cannot be trusted. This gendered warning also leaves men who are targeted by sex offenders unaware of the dangers they face when they accept a ride from another man.

Why do those who advocate shame have none themselves?
A discussion of an op-ed where girls who get pregant are supposed to feel shame but the boys or men who have unprotected sex with them or who rape them are not encouraged to feel any shame.
